MTV Australia Video Music Awards

Spectrum Management and RF Technician
Acer Arena, Sydney

MTV Australia

The MTV Australian Video Music Awards 2006 was a somewhat larger event than was held in the Big Top at Luna Park last year. It used every bit of floor space in the Sydney Superdome, and consisted of many stages and catwalks that all had to be covered RF-wise.

I was asked to do this show by Norwest Productions Sydney, also the audio team used at last years Awards. More spectrum management was required on this gig, as every facet of the production had there own radios being used in or around the Superdome.

Wireless summary includes: 23 channels of PSM, 12 channels of Global TV Lectrosonics IFB and presenter mics, 38 channels of Wireless mics, mostly (Shure UR series) including existing bands Sennheiser wireless guitar systems, 10 channels of 'choir' Shure U series MA, 8 or so channels of duplex repeater Comms, and a dozen or so discrete radio mics in or around the various rooms of the Superdome. Over a dozen iterations of computer calculated results were used, and many hours of listening tests before settling on a perfectly performing combination.
